Goslokahátíð matters because it puts history back into the town. Eldheimar is not a harbour ornament to see after stepping off the ferry; Skansinn is a historic site beside the harbour; Eldfell needs a separate walk and physical effort. The ferry is still the first programme item you cannot be late for
Herjólfur requires passengers to check in no later than 30 minutes before the published departure, and closes boarding five minutes before departure. Landeyjahöfn has free parking and ordinary vehicles do not need four-wheel drive. Vehicle space is not guaranteed on every sailing, so confirm it for your date. Festival-week cultural activities can shift; the sailing sets the boundary around your morning.

If you want an exhibition, a volcanic walk and time for family activities or weather changes, two nights turn the island from a timed challenge into a genuine cultural stay.
Do not judge accommodation only by distance from the terminal. A town-centre walking area connects more easily with the harbour and food during festival week; staying near the terminal makes an early departure and luggage simpler. If your companions mainly want quiet sea views, avoiding the core weekend or staying on the south-coast mainland may be more honest than buying a festival weekend you will not attend.
