In Reykjavík, a holiday gives you concentrated indoor attractions, public transport and restaurants; if you collect the car the next day, you can finish your supplies in the city. On the South Coast, Vík works well for daytime coast and waterfalls, but do not assume dinner will be served late. Turn the holiday into a practical checklist
- The night before: Fill the tank for the next reachable section, buy breakfast, water and a dinner that needs no cooking, and download the accommodation address to an offline map.
- Before setting out: Check the Iceland road conditions page and note the mountain passes and one-lane bridges on your route.

Put the real holiday cost back into the price
When holiday room rates rise, first calculate what the extra money pays for. Paying about HK$1,000–2,000 more for a central night (about NT$4,100–8,200) may buy a walk to dinner, an indoor back-up and no search for an open supermarket in the snow. A cheaper remote room may require an extra 40-minute drive for dinner and leave you exposed to a weather-related diversion.
