Match the bath to your North Iceland base
These baths serve different evenings. Check what is open and bookable on your date, then fit the soak around the base where you sleep, the road you have just driven and the one you take next. Warm water is a poor bargain when it creates a cross-region detour.

Check the date first, then choose the bath that avoids a detour
The scores consider date-specific availability, location, operating hours, base fit and fallback options; recheck price and capacity for your departure date.
Each bath serves a different base—Mývatn, Húsavík or Akureyri. Compare water temperature or photos only after the route fits.
Earth Lagoon, GeoSea and Forest Lagoon all require a date-specific check of places, times or operations; old names and old articles cannot replace the booking page.
Earth Lagoon sits by the Mývatn sights, GeoSea by the harbour, and Forest Lagoon beside an Akureyri city day. The split is clear.
Forest Lagoon runs late; GeoSea also has seasonal hours, which can suit an evening after whale watching or a city day.
If your date has no places, you can still use a free geothermal sight or a bath near another base, but the fallback changes accommodation and driving.
Wet swimwear, drying off, dinner and driving after a soak all take time; the nearest established base is usually more practical than the most famous name.
Start with the name change: Earth Lagoon is the current listing
The Mývatn bath now operates as Earth Lagoon Mývatn; “Mývatn Nature Baths” still appears in older articles and search results. Earth Lagoon lists daily hours of 12:00–22:00, adult admission from 7,900 ISK and a date-specific booking route, while operations can still change by date. Do not carry construction notes or another season's hours into your departure date. Use the dated page before payment.
Writing “Mývatn hot spring” in an itinerary does not make an entry slot exist. Put the stay date, operating notice and refund terms in the same check before deciding whether this is a bookable activity or one that needs a fallback. For two nights in the north, start with the Mývatn and Húsavík base split; the bath cannot choose whether you should sleep by the lake or at the harbour.

GeoSea fits when Húsavík is already on the day
GeoSea is at Vitaslóð 1 in Húsavík. It uses seawater from two drilled wells and keeps the pools around 38–39°C; changing rooms, lockers, showers and drinks matter more after a windy boat trip than a glossy pool photograph does. If you are already staying in Húsavík, disembarking, showering, eating and getting back to the room can all happen in one small town. If you are staying in Mývatn, price the drive north to GeoSea and the next direction into the ticket decision. On a map Húsavík is one more pin; on the road it can change where you sleep tomorrow. Put the three baths back on the North Iceland map
Use this map for orientation, not bath navigation or a driving-time promise. It places Mývatn, Húsavík and Akureyri on one OpenStreetMap base. Earth Lagoon sits beside the Mývatn sights, GeoSea by the harbour and Forest Lagoon on the Akureyri side of the city. Seeing the three points together makes the extra transfer behind a supposedly convenient stop easier to spot.

Forest Lagoon belongs to an Akureyri evening
Forest Lagoon is east of Akureyri and lists daily hours of 10:00–00:00, with guests leaving by 23:30. That schedule fits a city base: handle supplies in the afternoon, eat, then soak before leaving west the next day. If Mývatn sights or an eastbound morning are the plan, driving out from Akureyri and back is not “one more stop”; it is another base decision.
Forest Lagoon fits when you have one North Iceland night and are already staying in Akureyri, when someone needs city restaurants, a supermarket, charging or a wider room choice, or when Earth Lagoon has no suitable date-specific place. If Akureyri is your base, read the Akureyri destination page, then compare central and out-of-town self-drive accommodation; parking, the exit direction and dinner timing change together.

After a bath, there is no guaranteed cinematic walk through snow in a towel. There are shoes to find, hair to dry, wet swimwear to bag and a decision about who still has the energy to drive. With one North Iceland night, treat a post-soak drive of more than an hour as a warning. The ticket price has not changed, but that hour comes out of dinner, sleep and patience tomorrow.
A bath should fit the North Iceland route, not rewrite it
Even without a bath booking, the Mývatn area still offers a full geothermal day. Hverir, Krafla and Dimmuborgir cannot replace lockers or hot water, but they can return the plan to free terrain and trails. If you need a soak, ask whether GeoSea or Forest Lagoon justifies changing bases; if you only want to see Mývatn, do not sacrifice a sound route to add one more ticket.
Free geothermal sites are not a like-for-like substitute. Vents bring wind, sulphur, mud and safety boundaries; a bath provides bookings, lockers, warmth and a place for travelling companions to settle. Choose the bath that leaves tomorrow usable
If the date is bookable and you are already staying in Mývatn, Earth Lagoon fits the route; if whale watching is already planned in Húsavík, GeoSea is the natural finish; if Akureyri is your city base, Forest Lagoon gives the evening a clear shape. All three can work, provided one base's bath is not being used to patch an itinerary built around another.

What if Earth Lagoon is closed or has no places?
Use the base as the filter: on a Mývatn route, remove or replace the soak; after a Húsavík whale-watching day, check GeoSea; for an Akureyri evening, compare Forest Lagoon. Avoid crossing regions simply because the names sound similar.
Can GeoSea and Forest Lagoon replace each other?
Not completely. GeoSea fits Húsavík harbour plans, while Forest Lagoon fits an Akureyri base; the transport and evening work are different.
What should I check first on the ticket?
Check the date, time slot, operating arrangement and cancellation rules. Places and status change, so an older article does not confirm availability for your date.
