This event is easy to let the headline decide: three nights, music and beer can make buying a ticket feel like the whole plan. The mistakes usually happen in the smaller details. You may have just returned to the capital from the South Coast, with wind and rain still on your clothes; you may need to reach BSÍ early the next morning; or only one person in your group may want to go in while everyone else wants a quiet dinner in the centre. A three-day pass solves entry, not those time decisions.

Read the ticket price as a commitment, not just a number

Vatnsmýrin is not the city-centre doorway: decide where you will go after the event
The organiser gives the venue as Vatnsmýrin, in front of the University of Iceland. It is still within Reykjavík, but being “in the capital” does not mean every hotel is a few minutes away. When the event ends, the practical difference is whether you need to find a car first, cross an exposed stretch, return to BSÍ for luggage, or leave early the next morning for the airport, the Golden Circle or the South Coast. That is why I would check the route back to the room before looking at the lineup.
You may only need to buy one of the nights
All three nights suit travellers who have already made Reykjavík their base: the day does not need to carry a long excursion, so you still have energy for live music in the evening. If you return from the South Coast on Thursday and leave early on Saturday, a three-night pass turns the event into something you have to chase. For this kind of trip, I would keep one night for the performance you most want and leave the other evenings available for dinner, a public pool or sleep that can be recovered; Reykjavík public pools and lagoons compared gives the city’s evenings more useful options than insisting on a programme every night.

If you attend all three nights, make the days lighter
The three-night Oktoberfest pass naturally tempts you to fill the daytime as well, which is the quickest way to drain the fun from the event. If day one already includes a transfer from the airport or the South Coast, keep the day to check-in, food and one city area that needs no booking; on day two, put the indoor sight you most want before the event and leave time to change and eat early; if you leave the next day, make day three an evening you can leave early instead of staying to the end simply because you have already paid.
If you were also considering a film festival or another timed session, compare them as two fixed-time commitments rather than stacking event names onto the same night. Confirm the night’s lineup, ticket type and 18+ rule on the organiser’s page first; then choose a base according to whether you can walk back, breakfast, cancellation, parking and the next-day meeting point, comparing platform totals for the same dates, number of guests and similar room types.
Six questions to answer before paying
- Do you truly want to attend all three nights, or do you only remember one name from the lineup?
- Is everyone in your group at least 18, and can student-ticket eligibility be proved when the wristband is collected?
- The ticket is non-refundable but transferable. What will you do if a ring-road delay changes your timing?
- Will you walk back to the hotel, take a taxi or need to find a parking space again?
- Does the next day have a fixed BSÍ meeting, car collection, airport or South Coast departure time?
- Have you reopened the entry, venue rules, programme and transport notice before departure?
If question 3 or 5 still has no answer, do not treat the three-day Pass as the backbone of the itinerary. Oktoberfest can give a Reykjavík evening a theme; it does not need to lock the whole Iceland trip into place. Keep one cancellable room and an early-exit version so you can enjoy the event rather than watching the clock.

Should I buy a three-day pass if I am only attending one night?
Calculate it against the current price and entry terms on the official ticket page; do not assume the three-day ticket is automatically better value. If your itinerary allows only one night, the value of a single-night plan is that it changes fewer other city days; if you want the full lineup, compare whether you would genuinely use the three-day pass.
Where is the most practical area to stay after Oktoberfest?
The event is in the Vatnsmýrin area, and accommodation should not be judged by distance alone. The central city area makes dinner and a walk back after the event easier; if you must meet at BSÍ the next morning, include luggage and early transport as well.
Can travellers under 18 attend?
The current ticket terms limit the event to people aged 18 and over. Do not assume that an under-18 traveller can enter with an adult; follow the current Info page and ticket terms.
