Editorial trade-off For a semi-final or final, moving beside the venue solely because the event lasts four days may add little. For an early warm-up, walking distance, breakfast hours and the option of returning to the room matter more than the view. The useful question is whether you will be ready for the next match, not whether another attraction fits into the day.
Where TBR is, and what “near” means for a hotel
TBR is at Gnoðarvogur 1, 104 Reykjavík, in the Laugardalur area, with 17 badminton courts across the two sports halls. This is not the pedestrian centre. The organisers list Oddsson Hotel as walkable to the venue, while Hotel Cabin provides hourly transport during the tournament. Those two details are enough to stop one common mistake: typing “Reykjavík hotel” into a search page and treating straight-line map distance as the event transport plan.
Four event days do not require one kind of room throughout

The 2026 schedule separated qualifying, the opening main-draw rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals into different periods. That shows the shape of the event, not a fixed 2027 timetable. Before booking a non-refundable room, match the official draw, playing day and flight; otherwise an extra night may simply turn waiting time into room cost.

With one final, the city centre's nine represents a different reserve: companions can move around independently, and dinner after the match does not require finding a vehicle. Six questions before payment: keep “transport” from distorting the room price
- Is the player staying at a designated hotel listed by the organisers, and will the airport transport form be submitted by 12 January 2027?
- Are accompanying family members included in the transfer, or are only competing players eligible?
- Does the rate include breakfast, and can breakfast or packed food be arranged before the first check-in?
- Is there a secure place for rackets, luggage, wet outerwear and laundry?
- If the schedule runs late, what is the alternative transport from the hotel to TBR and the latest practical return time?
- Are you comparing the same room type, cancellation deadline, taxes and total airport-transport cost?
If two of those questions still have no answer, do not rush into a non-refundable room. Is staying near TBR worthwhile for one final?
If you need to return to the hotel for luggage, food or onward transport after the session, being near the venue removes one fixed journey. If you are attending one match and spending the rest of the time in the city, the centre's food and walking flexibility may be more valuable.
Can the designated-hotel airport transfer be assumed for every traveller?
No. Eligibility is tied to the designated hotel, the form and the deadline. Companions and spectators should not apply a player's arrangement to themselves; calculate airport transport from their own confirmation.
What should you ask about when travelling with rackets and sports kit?
Ask about luggage storage, in-room storage, breakfast hours, laundry and temporary storage after checkout. If a match runs late or begins early, these details affect the day more directly than general facilities such as a pool.
